To make this piece become a reality, I worked closely with their team to create a custom piece that matches their brand imagery and feel. I started by researching the companies vibe, creating mood boards, and using AI to make renderings of potential options. Once Smartwool was happy with a general design, I got to actually make it. I created an "A-frame" look, added layers, joinery, details for easy assembly, and a backdrop design. Then I went about cutting the frame from 3/4" maple plywood on a CNC router so all the connections would be precisely aligned. Once cut, I assembled the piece, sanded, rounded corners, applied finish and tested it. I am genuinely proud of the final result and think it a great piece of not just quality craftsmanship but also design for assembly and reuse.
Below are a few photos of the finished result, the design to get there, and the work in progress.
