When I started working with Denver Design Engineers I was working on a lot of small brackets and parts that often go overlooked, however, one of my favorite projects I did with them was designing a propane tank mount. I worked with the client Muddy River Outdoor, a startup making popup truck bed campers, who wanted a durable, burly looking mount that could attach to their campers. I quickly got in touch with a sheet metal shop and talked about constraints for the project. I wanted the design to be cut from one piece of metal in order to minimize assembly operations. I mocked up multiple prototypes in SolidWorks, working with its sheet metal engine, and talking back and forth with the client and the metal shop to ensure cost and quality were all satisfied. I finally ended up with the design below, something rugged that straps a propane canister tight, has a seamless opening mechanism, and can be used while still attached to the vehicle.Â
The product is now for sale here, check it out!
In this project, I learned so much about sheet metal design, client communication, and manufacturing constraints. I am really proud to have something I designed from start to finish to now be produced and sold.
A few images of the final designs and the CAD models to get there are shown below.
